Jared Leto Gets Joker Movie

Now, it appears that Jared Letos Joker will be getting his own movie. It has already announced a movie on Harley Quinn, Joker's lover, who was played by Academy Award-nominated Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad. Now, Variety is reporting a completely different Joker movie is in the works, starring Suicide Squad's Joker, Jared Leto, which presumably will take place entirely in continuity. It's always been known that The Hangover's Todd Phillips is directing an origin movie of the Clown Prince of Crime produced by Martin Scorsese and reportedly starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Warner Bros.is giving Jared Leto his own standalone Joker movie, which he will star in and reportedly executive produce. It's not clear if Warner Bros. intends to actually make both films or if they're developing both to see which one they'd rather pursue.

Plot details are now unknown, but the studio's idea is to expand on the world created by "Suicide Squad" and tie into future installments of that property.

The only movies we can count on from DC Films at this point are those that are actually in production: Aquaman, Shazam!

All of this Joker news is starting to get as confusing as Matt Reeves' The Batman.

Joaquin Phoenix was tapped to play the lead; however Warner insisted Leto's version was not being scrapped.

That's probably replaced Gotham City Sirens on the DC slate, which was again going to be a Quinn-centric tale with David Ayer set to direct, but all movies are/were expected to feature the Joker in at least a small capacity. Even then, it's entirely possible the film could come before Suicide Squad 2 - which does have a writer and director - should the studio opt to push Leto's Joker to the front of its schedule.
