Val Kilmer Confirmed to Reprise Iceman in Top Gun 2

TheWrap reports Val Kilmer is set to reprise his role in the long-awaited Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

Val Kilmer is heading back to the skies - or at least to the role that brought him there. "#Day1", he captioned the shot, which read "Feel the need", referencing one of Top Gun's most famous lines.

The script for Top Gun 2 hails from Eric Warren Singer (Only the Brave), Peter Craig (The Town), and Justin Marks (Counterpart).

Top Gun: Maverick will feature a plot that finds the pilots battling with new technology. As a hotshot, dedicated, but at times reckless, Maverick grows and learns the value of teamwork. It also starred Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt in pivotal roles. The sequel, which is being produced by leading man Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer, is expected to reach movie theatres next summer.

Oh, and Kenny Loggins has also come out of nowhere to say he'd love to work with someone on re-inventing "Danger Zone" for the sequel too.

Back in 2015, Kilmer had announced on Facebook that he was attached to the project, saying that "N$3 ot often you get to say "yes" without reading the script". There's no word if other cast members from the 1986 film will join the sequel.

Paramount Pictures has set a Top Gun sequel release date for July 12, 2019. But if you're looking for some more returning names from the first film, Harold Faltermeyer is composing the score and will hopefully be bringing a large helping of nostalgia.
