Lanzini, who battled a persistent knee injury towards the end of the Premier League season, started Argentina's 4-0 friendly win against Haiti at the end of May.

Enzo Perez has been added to Argentina's World Cup squad as a replacement for Manuel Lanzini.

West Ham's Manuel Lanzini will not be heading to Russian Federation for the 2018 Fifa World Cup after he sustained a serious knee injury during the Le Albaresta training session on Friday, June 8.

The 25 year-old's ruptured anterior knee ligament injury is not just a blow for Argentina, but something that fans at the London Stadium will surely be concerned about.

Twice world champions and beaten finalists in Brazil four years ago, Argentina face Iceland, Nigeria and Croatia in the group stage in Russian Federation this year. Lanzini has earned four caps to date and scored his first senior worldwide goal in a 2-0 friendly victory over Italy.

The loss of Lanzini will not end chances of Argentina going far, but they lose a good assist/goal threat to compliment Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain.

West Ham fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment at the news and with their superstar well in his recovery from a nasty injury.
