Amazon launches Echo Look in U.S., could popularize computer vision via Alexa

"Amazon Fire TV Cube will only get better over time with the Alexa service always getting smarter".

'Even with the tv off, say "Alexa, play Billions on Showtime" and Fire TV Cube powers on your TV and starts playback right where you left off'. For comparison's sake, the Echo Dot has a regular price of $50 (currently $40) and the Fire TV costs $70, but neither can do the Cube's IR magic. Amazon says most should work, but checking with them couldn't hurt.

These findings which are no doubt great news for Amazon, suggest that the trend for online shopping using voice-controlled assistants, is a clear growth one. The Fire TV Cube is a nifty smart set-top box for anybody who wants to control their home theater system with Alexa.

This is actually an interesting device and it finally allows Amazon to compete with the various Android TV set-top boxes and smart TVs. Enjoy hands-free voice control-search, play, pause, fast forward, and more.

Some of the things you can get done simply by asking include powering your TV on and off, changing the volume, switching to different inputs, and yes, changing the cable channel. Over the a year ago we invited customers to use Echo Look and give us feedback, which led to the launch of many new features-we're now excited to make the device available to all customers, with even more fashionable features and functionality to come that will help customers look their best every day. "We had to rethink the concept to honor French language and culture".

Amazon has unveiled the latest addition to its Fire TV lineup.

The Fire TV Cube looks like a literal box, but it basically packs a Fire TV, an Amazon Echo and a universal remote within its cubic form factor. At the moment, the Cube supports cable boxes from Comcast, Dish, and DirectTV.

There will be more to the story, so be sure to stay tuned in for more details. For the past few versions of Fire TV, Amazon has made a streaming stick that plugs unobtrusively into the back of a set. Last year, Parks Associates found that Amazon's $40 Fire TV Stick made up 81% of all Fire TV devices owned in US broadband homes. It can also stream in 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos, at least from services that are supported on Fire TV.

That's made life hard for premium streaming boxes like the Apple TV, which sells for $150 and up. Let us know in the comments.

If the Fire TV Cube succeeds, then, it'll be entirely because consumers see the value in having hands-free voice controls built in.
