Lyon say Nabil Fekir transfer negotiations with Liverpool have ended

The two clubs had been discussing a deal for the playmaker worth 60m euros (£52.75m) - 55m (£48.35m) plus a maximum of 5m (£4.4m) add-ons.

With France scheduled to play the United States tonight and then fly off to Russian Federation ahead of the World Cup, it now appears the 24-year-old will remain at Lyon, at least until after the tournament.

France forward Nabil Fekir's move from Lyon to Champions League runner-up Liverpool fell through on Saturday.

Liverpool's pursuit of Nabil Fekir has been abruptly ended in talks with Lyon.

However, it would appear Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is likely to sell Fekir after the World Cup.

Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media about the transfer of Nabil Faulkner to the Liverpool club. He came on in the second half of that game, which was at Lyon's home ground, to a great reception from the home fans.

The collapse - for now at least - of Liverpool's move for Fekir will be a setback for Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have been linked with the 24-year-old attacking midfielder for some time, and this week, there appeared to have been major developments.

Liverpool have already made some strong strides in the transfer market this summer, having recruited Fabinho from Monaco on top of the pre-agreed arrival of Naby Keita, and securing Fekir ahead of the World Cup would continue their excellent business.

Speculation is swirling about why the deal has not been rubber-stamped.

Reports claim the deal was at a pretty advanced stage - despite Lyon's statement insisting otherwise.

Liverpool did not attempt, suggest or offer to renegotiate any terms for Fekir. That's logical, we've done it for other players.
