His passing comes just one year after another contestant, Dr Brandon Rogers, 29, was killed in a auto accident weeks before his AGT audition was due to air on TV.

"Very sad to hear that Neal Boyd, Season 3 victor of ⁦@AGT⁩, has died at 42 from heart failure". Amick told Fox News that a wide array of health issues pertaining to Boyd's weight contributed to his death, including heart and kidney failure as well as liver disease.

No autopsy was done, according to the county coroner.

Neal E Boyd has died at the age of 42.

Boyd announced on his official Facebook page in May that he was raising money to record a new album and said he was still recovering from a near-fatal 2017 auto accident.

Boyd captivated audiences with his booming voice and quickly became a fan-favorite while competing on America's Got Talent back in 2008. His post-Talent career included an album, My American Dream, and performances for multiple US presidents. "[Recovery is] a very slow progress".

He released one album following his "AGT" victory, "My American Dream".

"Boyd also ran unsuccessfully as a Republican for a southeast Missouri House of Representatives seat, losing in the general election in 2012 and in the primary in 2014", the AP reports.

Boyd was the co-owner of Cox & Boyd Insurance Solutions, an insurance agency in Missouri.
