IHOP flips name to IHOb: International House of Burgers

Some wondered if the "b" stood for "breakfast", since after all, the restaurant serves bacon, eggs, omelets and more along with its traditional pancakes. The 60-year-old pancake chain announced its decision to drop the Pancakes from its name, and has rebranded as the International House of Burgers.

Will the new (and temporary) name change boost IHOP, er, IHOb's bottom line?

The announcement immediately caused fans of the breakfast chain to go insane with speculation, with the most likely option for what the "b" could stand for being "breakfast".

An IHOP in Hollywood is getting new IHOb signs, and some others might get the treatment. The "B" doesn't stand for breakfast, nor does it stand for anything that you'd likely want to eat for breakfast, or-let's be real here-at an IHOP at any time of day. "B-hold!" the company announced in a tweet on Monday, June 11, sharing a video to make the big reveal.

"This IHOP/IHOB thing is pretty brilliant... how many companies can get the entire internet talking about them based on a marketing campaign where they pretend to change their name?"

The new burgers are available with unlimited french fries and a drink for $6.99. "We've pancaked pancakes for 60 years now, so it's the ideal time to start burgerin' burgers". "Burgers are the most consumed entrée item for men, women and children in America", he continued, adding "it made sense to start with burgers".

How permanent is the name change?

Others noted that the Ob in the IHOb logo looked extremely similar to the O.B. brand of tampons.

"I just love IHOP for its breakfast", said customer Doreen Sharir at a half- full eatery on East 14th Street early Monday afternoon.
