Report: Pistons hire Dwane Casey

Former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey has reportedly agreed to take over as head coach of the Detroit Pistons on a five-year deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The latter pulled his name from consideration following a second interview, making this the predictable outcome.

Detroit parted ways with Stan Van Gundy - as both coach and president of basketball operations - around the same time that Casey was let go by Toronto.

"In our meetings he displayed great insight into what this roster can accomplish, and great passion about our city and the team's role in bringing people together", Mr. Gores said.

Detroit's playoff appearance in 2015-16 was their only one since 2008-09 when they were bounced in the first round by LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Prior to his appointment with Toronto, he served as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2005-07. "He embodies our culture and will be a great representative for our franchise". He also has experience in the league as an assistant with Dallas and Seattle.

Well, today you can mark head coach off that list. He later back to campus to work as an assistant for Eddie Sutton.

Under Casey, the Raptors won four Atlantic Division titles and advanced to the playoffs in five consecutive seasons.

Some Detroit Pistons fans have been very critical of Tom Gores for taking so long to find a head coach and general manager. The Raptors then outplayed the Washington Wizards in the playoffs, but were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Among the reported candidates for those jobs are the current Nets executive Trajan Langdon, Stefanski's former Memphis Grizzlies colleague Tayshaun Prince and the broadcaster Brent Barry.
