"It's a process and it's really moving rapidly", he added.

Following his withdrawal from the pact, Trump has announced the restoration of U.S. sanctions, while European leaders are trying to preserve the deal. "We pay for the majority of them", the president said.

Trump's surprise, nearly offhand comments, made during a news conference after his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, seemingly upended decades of the US defense posture on the Korean Peninsula.
