Naperville Police Sergeant Anthony Mannino has seen a lot in his 20-plus years on the job, but nothing quite like what saw while patrolling a busy highway several weeks ago.

An officer is being honored for rescuing a toddler he spotted running on the side of a busy highway in a Chicago suburb last month.

Sergeant Mannino quickly caught up to the boy and pulled him out of harm's way.

"I have twin boys, and there's not a day that goes by where something bad happens, you always think of your own kids", Mannino said.

The department posted dash cam video of the incident to Facebook and noted Mannino was presented Thursday with a live-saving service award. The 1-year-old was running alongside traffic, including large trucks whizzing by at unsafe speeds.

"You're OK. You're OK", said Mannino, when he caught up to the boy. He responded quickly, parking his squad vehicle to block traffic and pulling the little boy to safety. She told the officer he had made it about two blocks from their home.
