The Smash Amiibo line is about to get an ultimate refresh. "Ultimate") and an official release date (December 7, 2018).

Wolf, Ice Climbers and Pokemon Trainer are all back. Stages that were available to demo included Saffron City from the original Smash Bros on N64, alongside a dozen others from the last two decades.

All in all, those hoping for a whole new experience may be disappointed, but when all said and done, this game looks to be more of a refinement of everything that's come before, with "thousands" of little changes being scattered throughout.

In an interview with Game Informer, one of the biggest clarifications that Trinen provided was in stating that Nintendo and the game's director, Masahiro Sakurai, consider this "a new game" in the series and not just a "definitive edition" or "port" of the series' previous iterations.
