Real Madrid stun football world with unveiling of Zidane's replacement

The 51-year old was a player and coach of Real Madrid at the youth level before also coaching the Spanish national team at Under 19, 20 and 21.

"I said "no" to Real Madrid". "The most important thing is the decision I've taken, the rest we'll see".

Massimiliano Allegri has revealed he turned down an offer to manage Real Madrid because he had already committed his future to Juventus.

"I spoke to the [Madrid] president once, and I said that out of respect for the [Juve] president [Andrea Agnelli], to whom I'd given my word, and Juventus, I'd be staying at Juventus".

Zidane stepped down as Real Madrid manager last month after winning a third straight Champions League title.

Before deciding on Julen Lopetegui, Florentino Pérez weighed up several different candidates for the coaching job at Real Madrid.

Lopetegui was consequently sacked by Spain on Wednesday, as Gladwell reported, just two days before their opening game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is against Portugal.

The Juventus boss has confirmed that he did hold discussions with Real president Florentino Perez, but he made a decision to continue remain in Italy, where he has won four back-to-back Serie A titles.

"I've always said that the President will be the first to know if I want to leave, and the President will have to tell me if he wants to make a change".

His predecessor Antonio Conte is still in charge at Chelsea but the Blues are actively looking to replace him.
