‘Excessive’ heat wave to hit Chicago in time for Pride Fest weekend

If it feels like it's been really hot, you're not imagining things.

The Twin Cities metro area is now under an excessive heat warning for Friday afternoon. This means a big warm up for our area, but the humidity will also increase.and risky heat index values can be expected. Damaging wind, large hail, isolated tornadoes, are all possible with the more severe storms.

The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for Sunday starting at noon lasting until 8 PM.

The average monthly high temperature, at 68.4 degrees halfway through June, is already 1.4 degrees above normal for the month.

The big jump in heat and humidity begins on Sunday. As that front swings through during the evening, it could trigger a line of showers and storms to develop.

Today there may be a few high clouds early otherwise we'll have plenty of sunshine with highs in the upper 90s to low 100s.

The combination of temperatures in the upper 90s and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related stress and illness.

Showers and significantly cooler temperatures are ahead for Father's Day, with highs only making it into the 70s. So if you have plans outdoors for Father's Day, make sure you're staying hydrated and utilizing that sunscreen!

Heat is the number one weather-related cause of death in the United States every year. Fortunately, after we deal with another 90 degree day on Monday, the temperature trend is set to decrease through the middle and latter part of the week.
