Videos taken at the scene and shared on social media showed the rapper's slumped body in the driver's seat of a black sports vehicle as a bystander attempted to take his pulse.

As of Monday night, the Broward County Sheriff's Office had not identifiedtwo men wanted in the death of the musician, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, the office said in a statement.

A dark-coloured SUV was said to be seen fleeing the scene.

"The Florida native released his debut album "17" in August and followed up with "?" in March, with the latter debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

They have since said they believe the incident was a possible robbery and are appealing for information.

The 20-year-old was leaving a motorsports shop around 4pm (9pm BST) when the incident happened.

Following the shocking news, XXXTentacion's friends and fellow musicians took to social media to pay tribute to the young rapper.

Rapper XXXTentacion has been shot in Miami, news outlet TMZ reports. Shortly after 6:30 p.m. EST, the Sheriff's Office tweeted: "The adult male that was taken to the hospital has been pronounced dead". The rapper was now on house arrest at his $1.4 million Parkland home awaiting trial for multiple charges, including domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and aggravated battery of a pregnant woman.

Viewed as one of South Florida's most preeminent, emerging voices in hip-hop, the rapper collaborated with a variety of artists from Joey Bada$$ to Noah Cyrus. In recent months, he faced legal action over his alleged beating of a girlfriend while pregnant, which lead to prominent figures in the music industry to speak out against his music. Investigators are yet to ascertain the motive behind the killing. He was under house arrest while he awaited trial on battery and harassment charges.
