The Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000 is gunning for Intel's PC market

Snapdragon 1000 has a power rating of just 6.5W. The report further added that the Snapdragon 1000 chipset with the codename SDM1000 would be capable of facilitating processing power at par with an Intel U-series or Y-series chipset.

Current Snapdragon 1000 test chips include up to 16GB of RAM, with two 128GB flash storage modules, 802.11ad gigabit Wi-Fi and gigabit LTE. It's expected that the SDM1000 will share the 5G-capable cellular modem that will appear on the Snapdragon 855. Unfortunately for Intel, the company already has its hands full with 10nm manufacturing struggles and the growing popularity of ARM-powered PCs.

So far this year they have announced details of the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform which is the long-awaited update for Android Wear watches, there is also the XR1 which is a solution dedicated for VR and AR. The higher the TDP, the more stable is the processor. And, the performance of this SoC is expected to be on par with the Intel Skylake processors from 2017.

It is also essential to note that the TDP in case of the SDM1000 is approximately 12 W, thereby placing it among the ranks of Intel's U and Y series chipsets characterized with ultra-low power.

The newly introduced Snapdragon 850 as well as the Snapdragon 845 SoC measure 12.4 x 12.4mm.

KitGuru Says: Qualcomm is getting serious about Windows 10 on ARM, it will be interesting to see what the Snapdragon 1000 brings to the market.

According to a report from WinFuture, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000 will have 12 TDP (thermal design process), which is nearly double as of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC (flagship smartphone chipset from Qualcomm). In other words, the SoC will not be soldered to the motherboard. Those who are interested in smartphones and tablets will know these are flagship Qualcomm processors, which would give fantastic performance in a new mobile device.
