EPA chief Scott Pruitt flees Washington eatery after woman cradling toddler confronts him says he's 'harming' children

The woman who accosted EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt at a Washington restaurant on Monday said Tuesday she doesn't regret a thing.

In October, soon after Wheeler was nominated to his position as deputy director, he sent an email to Pruitt's chief of staff, Ryan Jackson, a longtime friend, with a headline from The Onion, the satirical publication: "EPA Promotes Pulsating Black Sludge to Deputy Director".

After weeks of reports about those alleged unethical dealings, Pruitt came under fire from lawmakers in April while testifying on Capitol Hill. Trump writes on Twitter, "Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job".

The White House did not respond to requests for comment.

Last month, the Red Hen restaurant in Virginia asked Trump's press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to leave, because staff felt they could not serve her in good conscience after she defended the president's attempt to ban transgender people from the U.S. military. He was not asked directly about the CNN report.

Trump has publicly criticized Sessions since a year ago, mainly for recusing himself from the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Pruitt, before taking the helm of the EPA, was the attorney general of Oklahoma and served two terms as chairman of RAGA, the Republican network for state attorneys general. "Do people really believe this stuff?" "But he's done a fantastic job running the EPA, which is very overriding", Trump said.

"It is extremely hard for me to cease serving you in this role first because I count it a blessing to be serving you in any capacity, but also, because of the transformative work that is occurring", Pruitt wrote.

Pruitt's reputation as a dogged deregulator and outspoken booster of the president allowed him to weather a litany of ethics scandals in recent months, including questions about taxpayer-funded first-class travel, a discounted condo rental from a Washington lobbyist and the installation of a $43,000 soundproof phone booth in his office. He described himself in his biography for that job as "a leading advocate against the EPA's activist agenda".

Pruitt's offer came in the spring while Trump was publicly castigating Sessions for recusing himself from overseeing the Russian Federation investigation.

Chmielewski again comes through with the details: "EPA staffers met routinely in Pruitt's office to 'scrub, ' alter or remove from Pruitt's official calendar numerous records because they might 'look bad, ' according to Kevin Chmielewski, Pruitt's former deputy chief of staff for operations, who attended the meetings".

Democrats also teed-off on Pruitt's flight expenses.
