Romelo Lukaku leads Belgium with four goals so far in the tournament

Romelu Lukaku has said his game is about more than just scoring goals after an outstanding performance helped Belgium to a 2-1 win over Brazil in the World Cup quarterfinals.

Brazil were almost back on level terms twice soon after, but Augusto fired his shot from just outside the area wide of goal before Coutinho skied a shot from Neymar's laid-off pass well over the bar.

If Belgium manage to win on Friday, they will set a new mark of five consecutive victories at the World Cup, beating the previous run of four matches.

Brazil started brightly but Fernandinho headed into his own net from a corner after 13 minutes and a stunning counter-attack saw Romelu Lukaku feed De Bruyne, who blasted home in the 31st minute.

But they pulled themselves together and came charging back after halftime, showing Belgium that they too have a resilient side - something which many had doubted.

Off Nacer Chadli's corner, the ball deflected off of Fernandinho, playing for the suspended Casemiro, for an own goal giving Belgium the 1-0 lead. "Brazil 2 Belgium 1 [after extra time]".

It has fueled confidence inside the Belgium camp that it can deal with adversity and make the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 1986.

Belgium and France will meet in St. Petersburg on Tuesday. "I will do a general assessment of the match and our campaign, but I won't be making any comments on individuals". Jesus had a stronger appeal after Kompany's challenge but again Brazil were denied.

"Sometimes you have to accept that Brazil has got this finesse, that quality, and that they're going to break you down, and [Belgium] just refused to accept that".

The Manchester City man said: "We have achieved something that is really lovely and not easy".

Neymar has been slammed for his theatrics at the World Cup.

Under their current coach Tite, Brazil have played 25 global matches, during which they have conceded just six goals.

However, the Brazilians looked extremely vulnerable to Belgium's counterattacking threat. De Bruyne made no mistake as he lashed home a thunderous drive from distance.

Things started off shaky for the Manchester City man and he eventually scored the game's opener - but it was in the wrong side of the goal.

Brazil's third change yielded a goal three minutes and 14 seconds after his introduction, Augusto gliding between two static Belgium defenders to nod a flicked header past Courtois from a sublime Coutinho cross. With time rapidly running out, Coutinho wasted another wonderful chance to equalise, after excellent work on the left by Neymar.
