Donald Trump to nearly entirely avoid London during United Kingdom visit

Mr. Trump will then travel to Windsor Castle to meet Queen Elizabeth II.

Malin Baker Bogue, 28, who works in government relations and moved to Britain from the United States in 2015, said she was not a fan of Trump despite being a Republican but was still surprised by the anger he provoked.

Instead Donald Trump will be treated to a black-tie dinner at Blenheim Palace, lunch with Theresa May at Chequers, and a meeting with the Queen at Windsor Castle.

They will then travel to Chequers, May's country residence, for talks on a range of foreign policy issues.

The President and the First Lady will then spend the night at Winfield House, the US ambassador's residence in central London.

Ambassador Woody Johnson said Mr Trump was simply trying to get as much impact as possible from his 24 hours in England on what he described as a "very important" visit which the president would use to strengthen the trans-Atlantic special relationship.

Most recently, the separation of migrant children and parents at the US-Mexico border reignited calls for May to call off Trump's visit.

Trump on Friday will visit an unnamed defence facility with May and the two will hold talks at Chequers, the 16th-century manor house outside London that serves as her official country retreat.

Among the forms of protest: A balloon depicting Mr. Trump as a baby wearing a diaper is expected to be flown over London while he is visiting.

Large protests are planned in the city of London during Trump's visit, which is planned for July 12 to 15, including a large "Trump baby" blimp approved by London city officials to fly over Parliament.

It is also expected that there will be mass anti-Trump protests in central London, and other towns and cities across the UK.

Johnson said the trip was not planned to avoid the protests.

Apart from Lyndon Johnson, Elizabeth has met every USA leader since Harry S. Truman but no other United States presidential encounter has generated the same level of opposition and controversy in Britain as Trump's trip. Mr. Trump has two golf courses in Scotland.

Next Friday evening, Mr. Trump will depart for Scotland, where Mr. Johnson said he would spend the weekend preparing for the meeting with Mr. Putin. "When we invited not one but two Presidents of China, we were prepared to overlook the fact that China is effectively a police state", he said.

Smyth expressed doubts that the president would stop by for a pint but said he would "have a pint of stout ready for him in case".

The visit comes at a testing time: May is battling to make a success of Brexit and keep her minority government together, while Trump is challenging Western assumptions about free trade and turning away from global institutions. In a crowdfunding request, they wrote that they want the balloon to shadow the president, "haunting the skies - and hopefully the dreams - of the stain on the office of President that is Donald Trump Senior".
