George Clooney hospitalized after car accident in Sardinia reports

If Clooney would have been seriously injured, the driver would have become public enemy number one.

An NBC News video segment said Clooney fell onto the hood of the auto.

Clooney said a vehicle turned in front of him and he hit it head-on, smashing the windshield, CNN reported.

Clooney, 57, plays US Air Force commander Scheisskopf in the World War Two Channel 4 drama, based on Joseph Heller's classic novel.

According toLa Nuova, an ambulance arrived and carted the injured Clooney to Sardinia's John Paul II Hospital. Giovanni Mannoni, a police commander in Olbia, stated that Clooney would be monitored by the hospital as an outpatient for 20 days. It's not clear whether he'll consider traveling on four wheels from now on, however, having previously suffered a broken rib in a motorbike accident in NY in 2007.

A spokesman for the actor told the Press Association: "George Clooney was treated and released from an Olbia hospital. Those who saw it will have probably thought of a normal accident also because Clooney's scooter is a normal scooter, there are lots of them around". Media inquiries at the hospital reveal that the actor has already been discharged and left the building through a side exit, to avoid the paparazzi outside.

Clooney is in Italy (aside from the fact that he famously has a home in Lake Como) to shoot a Hulu series in Sardinia. The Clooney Center for Justice is working to help the separated families.
