"Donald Trump likes to pose as an worldwide tough guy, but it looks like he's too scared to face protesters in London". That led roughly half a million people to sign a petition calling for Trump to be banned from entering the UK.

The President commented on the escalating crisis Monday, saying it's "up to the people" to decide if May should remain as Prime Minister.

Along with trade and security links, Downing Street said key areas to be discussed between the two leaders included Russia, Brexit and the Middle East.

"I like Boris Johnson, I've always liked him", said Mr Trump.

May called Trump in March to express her "deep concern" about his plans to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from the European Union and others.

As British politicians lined up to condemn him, Trump, in an unprecedented attack on one of America's closest allies, replied with an unrepentant message.

Fresh from a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit where Trump chided Germany and other European nations for failing to contribute enough to defence spending, British Prime Minister Theresa May is hoping his trip will boost the close ties between their two nations and help forge a future free trade deal.

A small demonstration is expected to take place near Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on Thursday, the venue for Trump's black-tie dinner with Prime Minister Theresa May.

Cabinet members, including Chancellor Philip Hammond and the new foreign secretary, Jeremy Hunt, as well as business leaders, will be among the guests.

While the protests are taking place in the British capital, Trump will meet the queen at Windsor Castle where he will be welcomed with a guard of honor before having tea with the 92-year-old monarch. The president's time in Scotland is not counted as part of the working visit. Britain's Police Federation has warned that the visit will put "unquestionable pressure" on the country's security services-and nearly every police force in England and Wales will send extra police to London to help keep order.

While events are planned for July 12 and 14, the biggest demonstration will be held in central London July 13, which is expected to draw up to 50,000 people.

Police forces from across the country have been asked to send officers to assist the Metropolitan Police, including 400 from the West Midlands force.

Mass protests are expected across Britain, leading police to mobilize to a degree not seen since 2011.
