All three Lannister siblings were also recognized, with Lena Headey earning her fourth Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as Cersei while her on-screen brothers Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) picked up Best Supporting Actor nods.

Game of Thrones garnered a whopping 22 nominations - the most for any series this year.

In a statement, HBO said it was "very pleased" with its nominations and the "wide range" of categories they inhabited. Silicon Valley and Curb Your Enthusiasm grabbed seven and four nominations each.

"GLOW" star Alison Brie wasn't nominated for her work on the Netflix series, in which she plays a struggling actress who joins a TV show focusing on women's wrestling.

CNN's "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown", received a nomination in the category for best information series or special, which also includes shows with Leah Remini and David Letterman.

"Saturday Night Live, " riding high in the ratings with its relentless pillorying of the Trump administration, was rewarded with 21 nods.

Rhys and Brown will be up against Brown's castmate Milo Ventimiglia, along with Jason Bateman for "Ozark" and Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright for "Westworld".

The series, which will not air this year, is in contention for the Emmy for Best Drama Series along with The Crown, The Americans, The Handmaid's Tale, Stranger Things, This Is Us and Westworld.
