The Queen spoke proudly not only as the RAF's Air Commodore-in-Chief, but also as a citizen who remembered the Battle of Britain, and as a daughter whose father King George VI served with the RAF.

She's accessorised with a decorative hat by Stephen Jones, a chic clutch and pale heels.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who is on maternity leave and who celebrated her third child Louis' christening on Monday, appeared in a mint green coat dress by Alexander McQueen and a hat by Sean Barrett.

As she and her family left the chapel where Prince Louis had been baptized and began to make their way to a post-christening reception party, she told the phalanx of photographers "you're not coming" or perhaps "he's not coming". She was presented with the brooch by the Air Cadets in 2015.

Missing was the queen's husband, Prince Philip, 97, who has retired from public life.

The royal couple, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been photographed in their first royal engagement since they tied the knot last Saturday.

The official Sussex itinerary in Ireland includes parties, sports, meetings with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and President Michael Higgins, and visits to see the historic Book of Kells in Trinity College's famed Old Library, to pay respects at the nearby memorial to the Irish Famine and to explore the Irish Emigration Museum.

However, the former Suits actress has been known to break the rules by wearing black to other events such as her visit to Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. The queen, dressed in a royal blue outfit with turquoise edging, later hosted a ceremony to present the RAF with a new Queen's Colour, at which she recognised the service's work.

And when the royal family arrived at Westminster Abbey to mark 100 years of the RAF, Meghan and Catherine's outfits were vastly different but were both stylish and demure.

The RAF was formed with the amalgamation of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) on 1st April 1918.
