Jürgen Klopp is keen to add the 26-year-old to his attacking options for next season and the winger wants to remain in the Premier League following Stoke's relegation to the Championship.

Shaqiri joined Stoke in 2015 from Inter Milan before going on to make 84 league appearances for the club.

Shaqiri does have a release clause but the exact details are unknown at this stage, though the fee is believed to be higher than the widely reported £12m.

The Reds expect that players participate in 75 percent of games if they go on loan.

Liverpool have been linked with closing in on the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City and fans have been reacting on social media. He admitted that he would like to leave following last season's relegation.

Shaqiri wants to remain in the Premier League after Stoke were relegated past year and a number of clubs have shown an interest in the Switzerland global. Liverpool saw a deal for Lyon captain Nabil Fekir break down due to a medical issue last month, but serious alternatives are yet to emerge amid claims from the player's agent that the move remains on the table.

Naby Keita and Fabinho are the only two major signings made by the Reds so far this summer.
