The $10 million Tiger Woods-Phil Mickelson showdown has a date

Tiger vs Phil, the $10 million one-on-one golfing rivalry showdown teased for weeks, will now go down around Thanksgiving in Las Vegas.

Rumours of a made-for-TV match have abounded since Woods and Mickelson shared a practice round at the Masters in April, something the old foes repeated before this week's WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Though the event has not yet been formally announced and, according to Greenberg, the date could either be Friday, Nov. 23 or Saturday, Nov. 24, the fact that they have settled on a location and weekend means the match is clearly more than just a pipe dream.

Golf.com reported last month that the two sides were in negotiations for a "winner take all" match.

Both Woods and Mickelson agreed to be miked up, creating a television experience that viewers do not get normally.

"It's a ridiculous amount of money".

Their relationship, frosty in their primes, has thawed in recent years as age and life experiences have brought them closer.

The duo have been rivals for much of their careers, with Mickelson a long-time number two to Woods' domination as world No.1.

What followed was a much-hyped about pairing for the first two rounds at The Players in May, and it was there at TPC Sawgrass that Mickelson first floated the idea. Mickleson saying, "Now, I don't know if he wants a piece of me, but I just think it would be something that would be really fun". "We'll play for whatever makes him uncomfortable", he said.

Depending on the success of this event, both Woods and Mickelson hope this starts a series of events of a similar nature, pitting individuals or small teams against one another with a high purse at stake.
