"We have really rebuilt China, and it's time that we rebuild our own country now", Mr Trump said during about an hour of free-wheeling remarks at a rally outside Columbus, Ohio.

"Governing a country is not like doing business", the state-sponsored newspaper added. Last month, the International Monetary Fund warned that escalating trade conflicts following USA tariff actions on its trading partners threaten to derail the global economic recovery.

The two countries slapped tariffs on $34 billion worth of each other's goods in July.

China's finance ministry said duties ranging from 5 per cent to 25 per cent would be levied on 5,207 kinds of imports from America if the United States implemented its proposed taxes on another $200bn of Chinese goods.

President Trump last week ordered officials to consider imposing a 25 percent tax on $200 billion worth of imported Chinese goods, up from an initial 10 percent rate.

The United States alleges that China steals U.S. corporate secrets and wants it to stop doing so, and is also seeking to get Beijing to abandon plans to boost its high-tech industries at America's expense.

Recent data showed growth has already started to cool.

In response, the Chinese government has released more liquidity into the banking system, encouraging lending and promising more "active" fiscal policy.

Beijing fought back with matching tariffs on the same amount of US exports to China. So this unifies NAFTA and U.S., Europe, Australia, Japan. U.S. tariffs on another $16 billion worth of Chinese imports are set to be enacted at a later date.

The US President, further highlighting the effectiveness of "America First Tariffs", said that move had a positive impact on the Steel Industry.

China is trying to seek an "equal" position in future talks with the USA with Friday's retaliation announcement, said Gai Xinzhe, analyst at the Bank of China's Institute of International Finance in Beijing.

His tweet Sunday comes after recent reports that China will impose tariffs on $60 billion of USA products, escalating a potential trade war.

The U.S. has imposed tariffs targeting aerospace, robotics and other forms of technology, while China retaliated with tariffs on agricultural products, seafood and cars, among other things.

The Chinese reaction is sure to ratchet up tensions with the Trump administration at the end of a week that saw stock markets rattled by the intensifying trade battle.

This latest move comes after it emerged Donald Trump's administration is considering hitting £154bn ($200bn) of Chinese imports with additional levies.

The threat came a day after Chinese officials appealed for dialogue based on "mutual respect", with Foreign Minister Wang Yi urging the US on Thursday to remain "cool-headed". Wang said on Friday they did not get into details.

"We urge the United States to come to its senses, correct its erroneous acts and create the necessary condition for a proper settlement as soon as possible", spokesman Geng Shuang said.
