Bernard reveals why he rejected Blues for Everton

Everton have beaten the clock to sign Bernard from Shakhtar Donetsk

Bernard became the Blues' first arrival, joining on a free transfer after his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk expired at the end of the previous season.

Portuguese midfielder Gomes, 25, will join on a season-long loan at a cost of 2.25 million euros for the English club.

Silva has been desperate to bolster Everton's defence all summer and had been linked with a number of targets, such as Manchester United's Marcus Rojo and Newcastle's Jamaal Lascelles, but Mina was his top target.

The Toffees were not finished there as Barcelona confirmed the Toffees had signed both Mina and Gomes.

The Toffees have also signed Brazilian winger Bernard on a permanent deal.

"Bernard is a great player, a player for the Brazilian national team, and I also followed his progress with Atletico Mineiro", Richarlison said on Wednesday. "He is a very good coach and he has achieved really good things at other clubs", he said in a statement. Everton is a club with a great structure and a lot of tradition, historically the fourth most successful club in England. But I was also convinced Everton could improve me and that I would be able to show my best as a player here'.

Speaking about why he wanted to join, the 23-year-old told the club's website that he discussed Everton with fellow teammate Lucas Digne - who played alongside Mina at Camp Nou - before making the switch.

Gomes sealed a move to Goodison Park on transfer deadline day, and will now spend the 2018-19 campaign on loan at the Merseyside giants.
