White, who has a good chance at starting this season with the departure of both Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green in the trade to Toronto, said, "I'm super excited for the season to start".

Despite his success with the franchise, Leonard requested a trade this offseason, paving the way for the Raptors to acquire him in return for DeMar DeRozan.

In his letter, Leonard praised former coach Gregg Popovich, saying he will "always be grateful for my growth under your guidance". Leonard gives a shoutout to his teammates "over my seven years in the National Basketball Association".

Though some are more heartfelt and less robotic, thank-you letters by traded players rarely say much significantly. "I'll always remember the city and the people of San Antonio!". Leonard wrote in a letter to the San Antonio Express-News on Thursday.

One of the most talked about moves this offseason in the National Basketball Association has been the blockbuster Kawhi Leonard trade between the San Antonio Spurs and the Toronto Raptors.

Leonard demanded a trade this summer away from the only team he has known, after seven mostly brilliant seasons in San Antonio.

While Leonard rarely speaks publicly on his intentions, the belief among most pundits is that he wants to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

Leonard leaves the Spurs with career averages of 16.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.

Leonard obviously didn't address his supposedly frosty relationship with the San Antonio organization, but a few of his words - "through all the ups and downs" and "I have been going back and forth the last few weeks trying to figure out the right things to say" - seemed to at least suggest he's had a lot on his mind.

However, questions remain about the status of a right leg injury that shelved him for all but nine games last season.
