Speaking at a dinner on the sidelines of the 10th Ambassadors Conference in the Turkish capital, Çavuşoğlu said he had discussions Tuesday with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the lifting of visas for Turkish citizens and also exchanged views on Syria and Idlib.

The White House says "we won't forget" how Turkey has treated a detained American pastor, after a court rejected his appeal for release.

On the other hand, Lavrov noted that the measures applied by the United States against Russia, Turkey and Iran, guarantors of peace in Syria, are an attempt to obstruct efforts to achieve a negotiated solution to the conflict in the Arab country.

Turkey has been hit by financial turmoil, with the lira plunging over deepening concerns about the government's economic policies and a diplomatic spat with the United States.

"The era of bullying must end", the minister said and called on the U.S.to return to a dialogue, warning that threats and pressure on Turkey would cause chaos.

Last week, Trump ramped up his attack on Ankara by doubling tariffs on Turkish aluminum and steel imports to 20 percent and 50 percent, respectively.

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Wednesday that Andrew Brunson is "a very good person and a strong Christian who's done nothing wrong".

Russian Federation backed Erdogan in urging countries to do business in their own national currencies rather than dollars. The summit focusing on Syria and the wider region will be held in Istanbul on September 7. Turkey retaliated on Wednesday with tariffs on certain U.S. goods.

"We appreciate our partners' refusal to join anti-Russian sanctions", he stressed.
