Serena Williams of The United States serves during her ladies singles first round match against Kristyna Pliskova of Czech Republic during day three of the 2018 French Open at Roland Garros on May 29, 2018 in Paris, France. He said the tournament will be instituting a new dress code starting next year, and that Williams's catsuit will be on the banned list because "I think sometimes we've gone too far", Giudicelli said. "I feel like everything is just different in terms of I'm living a different life, I'm playing the US Open as a mom", said Serena, who has never lost in her home Grand Slam before the semifinals since 2007. "Serena's outfit this year, for example, would no longer be accepted", Bernard said, implying that Serena's outfit did not respect the game or the competition.

More than just a fashion statement, the full-length, skin-tight outfit is created to protect against blood clots after the American revealed doctors had found a haematoma - a swelling of clotted blood outside of a vessel - in her body following the birth of her daughter Olympia.

The figure-hugging Nike bodysuit caught the attention of fans when she wore it in May as she returned to action after giving birth in September past year. Over the past few days, fans have rallied behind the world's most famous tennis player and 23-time Grand Slam victor.

"I feel like if and when they know that some things are for health reasons, then there's no way that they wouldn't be OK with it", Williams said.

"My whole team is basically French, so we have a wonderful relationship".

The catsuit was not only stylish, but also helped Williams fight off her blood clots.

Serena said she hadn't even looked at what opponents she could face as she hopes to win a 24th Grand Slam singles title, and seventh in NY. I thought after having a child I would be more relaxed....but I'm not.

Williams wore skin-colour tights at Wimbledon and in her subsequent matches. If she wins, she will tie with Margaret Court as the most successful tennis player of the Open era.

"I nearly died after giving birth to my daughter Olympia", Williams said. I just feel like I take it just as serious if not more. "I've always wanted to be a superhero, and it's my way of being a superhero".

Awarded the 17th seeding, nine spots above her world ranking, Williams nevertheless faces a tough early road with a potential third-round clash with her sister Venus and a possible fourth-rounder against world number one and top seed Simona Halep.

"I just hope to keep going forward, have some more success", Stephens said.

"You can't beat a catsuit, right?"
