A failure would increase the risk of a crash.

General Motors is recalling more than 210,000 cars in the U.S.to fix faulty brakes. The affected models include the Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe, the GMC Sierra and Yukon, and the Cadillac Escalade, all of which are from the 2015 model year.

It said it has introduced changes since 2015 to mitigate the problem, which causes temporary loss of power steering and makes it hard to steer, especially under low-speed conditions.

In 2014, the No.1 USA automaker had recalled almost 800,000 pickup trucks worldwide because of the same problem.

A similar power steering recall affected some 700,000 Chevrolet and GMC trucks in the USA a year ago. GM said in a government filing that "hydrogen gas can remain trapped in the piston body", which may make the brakes feel soft and take longer to stop the vehicle. Also covered is the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu.

GM has stated that they will notify owners of these vehicles, and dealers will be able to update the EPS module software, free of charge.

The firm, which started investigating the issue in June after complaints, said the issue is linked to 30 crashes and two injuries but no deaths. Download the 10News app now.
