Maurizio Sarri invites John Terry to join Chelsea coaching staff

For the moment, Cesar Azpilicueta holds the armband, but the manager says that could soon change.

"If there is a pitch and there are 11 players, I feel at home anywhere", Sarri said.

"But before telling you my decision I would like to speak to the players and the club". But I don't know - he told me another thing, that he wants to play.

As Sarri revealed this afternoon, it is something he has previously discussed with the defender.

"I remember in my first season in Naples the average points per match during the season was 2.28, but the average after the worldwide break was only 1.31 or 1.32 so I know that the match after the break is very hard", he told Chelsea's official website. But while the West London club's impressive early season form spells good omens for the 59-year-old - they have won the title in five of the six times they have managed to win their first four league matches - he recently dismissed the club's chances of winning a third league trophy in five years.

John Terry is Chelsea's most successful captain, leading the Blues to 14 major trophies.

Sarri said: "The last time I spoke with him he told me he wants to play for another season, but I don't know the situation". But if he wants to help us, I'm really very happy.

The Blues have looked revitalised since Sarri replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge and are yet to drop a point in the Premier League. For everybody here, I think.

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, has warned his players about the dangers of worldwide breaks ahead of Saturday's clash against Cardiff City. Fortunately, we have very strong young players: "Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Ampadu. and I'd like to give them the right space".

Both Spanish giants were reported to have expressed an interest in signing the winger, but the player himself has claimed that he never wanted to leave Stamford Bridge.
