Sarri has been candid about Chelsea's defensive frailties, and those shortcomings were exposed in full when Bamba handed the visitors the shock lead.

The hosts almost hit back immediately and in some style as backheels from Pedro Rodriguez and Olivier Giroud sent Mateo Kovavic clear on goal, but the Croatian was denied his first Chelsea goal by a fine save from Neil Etheridge.

The 94-cap playmaker already has five goals in as many league games this season, and appears to only have eyes for more.

City and Chelsea await in Liverpool's next three league games and secured comfortable home victories to boost their own title chances. Chelsea are now second in the Premier League with 10 goals, and only defending champions Manchester City have more with 11.

Cardiff has two points from five games.

Chelsea now sit top of the Premier League table on goal difference ahead of Liverpool.

Kante, 27, was an important member of France's World Cup-winning squad in Russian Federation, but despite heavy links with a return to his home country after former coach Antonio Conte was replaced by Maurizio Sarri, the former Leicester City man is happy to still be in London this season.

While the Premier League only dates back to 1992-93, it requires a long trek through history to find the last time any English top-flight duo managed it. I think he can score 30 or 35 goals.
