The Storm’s starters celebrate widening their lead late in the second quarter as the Seattle Storm take on the Washington Mystics for game three of the WNBA Finals at Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax Virginia Wednesday

Out of all of the insane moments in the Storm's series against the Mercury - arguably the most intense five games of the entire playoffs - Bird's Game 5 takeover will likely be the most memorable.

The 2018 WNBA MVP and 2016 Olympian led the Seattle Storm to a 98-82 victory over the Washington Mystics to complete the three-game sweep, scoring 30 points and collecting eight rebounds while earning Finals MVP honors.

"It didn't feel like my first WNBA finals closeout game", the poised Stewart said. "We went through that and now I think we'll handle it much better".

"We have a lot of good three-point shooters".

Sanders, known for her defensive prowess and mid-range jumper, put up 17 points and 12 rebounds in the August matchup while holding Stewart to two field goals. Too many short range shots left at the rim cost Washington crucial points.

What was billed as a battle between two of the league's most lethal three-point shooting teams turned into a one-sided display for the Storm. Yet less than a minute later, the Storm had the lead back to 15 points, completely shutting the Mystics down. Seattle led the league by scoring 31.1 percent of their points from beyond the arc, with Washington next at 29.8 percent.

The Seattle Storm bench celebrates in the third quarter against the Washington Mystics during Game 1 of the WNBA Finals on September 7, 2018 in Seattle. They took 16 3-pointers and missed all 16.

THE Seattle Storm, featuring the newest Australian Opal, Sami Whitcomb, have cruised to the 2018 WNBA Championship after sweeping the Washington Mystics.

"I gotta say, as exciting as it is to have the Storm making playoff noise - I'm anxious that everyone's not on the same page. When you're on the other side of it, you try to slow her down and obviously, we didn't get that done".

"We don't want to go [back] to Seattle to play", Stewart said. Later that night, Washington lost the decisive Game 3 of the Finals at George Mason's Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax, the team's second different home-away-from-home.

"When you talk about being a coach on the floor, she's it", said first-year Storm coach Dan Hughes who admits to sharing authority in the locker room and during timeouts with Bird.

Elena Delle Donne, their 2016 Olympic teammate, scored 23 points for the Mystics.

"We're here in front of our home crowd and we're fighting", Mystics guard Kristi Toliver said.

As did numerous players who represent those teams, such as Seahawks stars Earl Thomas, Russell Wilson and Frank Clark. Stewart, the MVP, and Loyd carried the scoring for much of the season, combining for almost 40 points per game.

Now she can add a WNBA title and a WNBA Finals MVP to her resume.

Still, Mystics guard Natasha Cloud described her team's situation as "David and Goliath", as no team in WNBA history has come back to win the championship after trailing 2-0 in the Finals.

Voting for the All-WNBA First and Second Teams was conducted at the conclusion of the regular season. Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner were not with the team for those two games due to their participation in the WNBA playoffs, but did join them for the trip to France.
