Butler asks for deal from Timberwolves

The Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers are expected as desired destination, and could.

With under a week to go before players report to their respective franchise, a Butler trade could send the start of the National Basketball Association season into a wild place. He averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists in Minnesota last season, leading them to the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

Butler also turned down a contract extension offered by the Timberwolves earlier this offseason, knowing he could wait another season, become a free agent and sign a bigger contract.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Butler spoke to Tom Thibodeau about the direction the Timberwolves were going.

After six seasons with the Chicago Bulls, Butler played his first season in Minnesota past year, averaging 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 59 games. In exchange for the then three-time NBA All-Star, the Bulls received Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, and the #7 pick - Lauri Markkanen. Butler's bigger issues reportedly were more likely to involve his younger teammates, such as Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. The NBA has steadily moved away from the "emperor coach" model of having one man overseeing all aspects of the organization in recent years, and only two - Thibodeau and Gregg Popovich in San Antonio - remain in the league.

Those questions won't stop until the season ends - or until the Timberwolves answer them with actions.
