Facebook cloning is when someone creates an account and steals your photos and personal information and then sends out friend requests to your existing friend list to gather more personal information, or to send out scam messages from the faked account. "And you certainly should check it out so that you can take action to protect yourself and your friends if your account really has been cloned", he wrote.

If you've received a message from a friend telling you that your Facebook account has been cloned, don't be alarmed.

Hi, I actually got another friend request from you yesterday...which I ignored so you may want to check your account.

It then instructs you to hold your finger down and forward the message. "Please forward to all your contacts", the message reads.

If you're concerned however, you can check whether your account has been cloned by typing your name into the Facebook search bar.

Of course, there have been multiple real Facebook scandals recently; from reports of logins being sold on the dark web to the massive data breach at the end of September, it's been a rocky month for the social media company. Your friends will think that it's you and accept your request. Nothing. Delete the message and move on. That does actually happen.

'We haven't seen an increase in incoming reports of impersonation (cloned accounts).
