Broward County's XXXTentacion wins best album award at AMAs

The American Music Awards happened today, and even though Taylor Swift slithered away with four awards including Artist Of The Year, the real victor of the night was Cardi B.

The singer echoed her own political Instagram post and said, "And you know what else is voted on by the people is the midterm elections on November 6. Thanks guys, I appreciate it". Not only did she open the show with a mind-blowing performance of her song "I Did Something Bad", but she took home THREE awards at the show, and broke an all-time record previously held by Whitney Houston.

Cardi was nominated for eight awards tonight, tying her with Drake as the most-nominated artist.

Swift was backed by more than a dozen dancers for the performance and a large snake hovered behind her onstage. "Get on and vote". She also condemned Republican senatorial candidate Marsha Blackburn for her voting record on women's rights and equal marriage. Bob Corker's seat. Swift, a Tennessee resident, also said she'd be voting for incumbent Rep. Jim Cooper, a Democrat. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway.

Gladys Knight performed a rendition of Amazing Grace in tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, and said ahead of the show: "I am so very honoured to have known her since we were both little girls".

The 2018 American Music Awards are nearly upon us, and ABC has assembled a surprisingly diverse crop of personalities to help us prepare for the big night.

Other performers included Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Shawn Mendes and twenty one pilots. Her album, "Invasion of Privacy", was surprisingly shut of the favorite rap/hip-hop album category.
