Actor Sandhya Mridul has opened up about her alleged sexual harassment at the hands of Alok Nath during the shooting of a telefilm, days after writer-producer Vinta Nanda accused him of rape.

The actor's lawyer said, "Easy to make allegations of an incident alleged to have taken place 19 years back". Alok Nath was playing my father (in the telefilm).

She revealed that he first made her uncomfortable during a dinner with other cast members: "At dinner he got progressively drunk and started insisting I sit with him and that I belonged to him and other stuff that I don't clearly remember but it made me very nervous and uncomfortable". The unit rallied around me and made sure I was safe. But after reading Vinta Nanda's heartbreaking account I felt I had to support her. I had the hairdresser moved in to my room permanently. It was a catch 22 situation. And knocks. The hairdresser would answer.

"In one, I had to sit on his lap and cry".

She said she worked with him recently for Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2017), where he seemed to be "quiet and subdued".

"He pulled a chair next to my bed and howled". Fed up of his harassment, she allowed his request to see her to apologise and he blamed his behaviour on his alcoholism and destroyed marriage. "He says he had learnt his lesson and that he would go to therapy and change it all". She said the experience was "nauseating" to say the least.

Later, she got a job to write and direct a series for Plus Channel, and again, her paths crossed with Alok.

The "most hard part" and the "main reason" she took so long to come out with the truth was because while she was working on this new series, Alok asked her to come to his house again and she allowed him to violate her. He laid the foundation others like him built on. Attitude my biggest crime.

Speaking to ABP News about Nanda's allegations on Tuesday, Nath questioned Nanda's version of events.

"Alok Nath. You know this to be true. As do few others". "I had to forgive you for myself then and for my sanity, but I will never forgive you for what you did with Vinta whom I have always loved and respected".

"I stand by you Vinta. I salute Vinta's courage; I wish I could show the same courage, but life has come way past it and I can't put my family through this".

The #MeToo movement gained momentum in India after Tanushree Dutta spoke up against Nana Patekar nearly two weeks ago. Deepika further wrote on Facebook that she was quite young at that time but remembers "vividly how disgusting he was".
