'Handmaids' Protest Brett Kavanaugh's First Day on Supreme Court

US President Donald Trump has had a series of wins but can it last

After the Senate's vote to confirm the controversial nominee, Democratic voters have grown more enthusiastic about midterm voting than Republicans, a Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday found.

"The complaints do not pertain to any conduct in which Judge Kavanaugh engaged as a judge".

The new justice dived into his new job, asking a handful of questions in the first arguments of the day following a traditional welcome from Chief Justice John Roberts, who wished Kavanaugh "a long and happy career in our common calling".

President Trump has praised his US Supreme Court pick.

Grassley told Fox News on Tuesday that the committee would not take up a Supreme Court nomination in an election year if he is still the chairman.

It's possible the complaints will never be investigated if the lower-court judges determine the judiciary's ethics rules don't give them jurisdiction over a Supreme Court justice.

Chief Justice John Roberts, right, administers the Constitutional Oath to Judge Brett Kavanaugh in the Justices' Conference Room of the Supreme Court Building.

Complaints made against judges are usually handled by the chief judge. It not clear who filed the others. He did not immediately move to refer the filings to another appeals court.

Such complaints are usually confidential unless the judicial council investigating issues a public report about its findings.

The first public word of the complaints came Saturday when D.C. Circuit Judge Karen Henderson acknowledged that complaints about Kavanaugh had been filed.

Although the complaints were originally lodged with the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Kavanaugh's former court, the circuit executive of that court asked Roberts to transfer the matters to another circuit out of a "concern that local disposition may weaken public confidence in the process".
