"Brooks has brought a new brand of athleticism to the PGA Tour, and we saw the results this year with his historic season at the major championships and a top-10 finish in the FedExCup", PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement.

Brooks Koepka added another accolade to a sensational season yesterday when, as had been widely expected, he was named PGA Tour Player of the Year following a 2017-18 campaign highlighted by two major victories.

This year, he'll be asked repeatedly about another major champion - Willie Anderson, the only player to win the U.S. Open in three consecutive years.

"Looking at the list of the guys who have won this, Mr. Nicklaus, Tiger, so many Hall of Famers, that's what you want growing up, that's what you dream of", Koepka said in a phone interview.

"I'm excited to try and do it".

Two months later, Koepka held off Tiger Woods amid ear-splitting roars on the back nine at Bellerive to win the PGA Championship by two shots.

He made his return at the Wells Fargo Championship in May, before becoming the seventh player in US Open history (and first since 1989) to successfully defend their title a month later in his fifth start back at Shinnecock Hills. "I'll be fine.' Good news or bad news, I had positive energy".

Koepka's third major championship came quickly after.

Koepka, who will receive the Jack Nicklaus Trophy for winning PGA Tour Player of the Year, was selected for the honour over Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose and Justin Thomas.

It was the second time he has won the awards in three years. World number one Johnson was third followed by England's Justin Rose, victor of the US PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoff crown.

Johnson won the Byron Nelson Award for having the lowest adjusted scoring average on the PGA Tour. Koepka denies being in a fight, saying he and Johnson laughed about the report. After the Ryder Cup, he played the Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews.
