UPDATE: 10-year-old girl appears in Chippewa Co. Court, pending charges on infant death

A 10-year-old girl has been charged after she allegedly stomped on the head of a 6-month-old boy at Wisconsin day care, killing him, according to reports.

Police said that they received a call from a caretaker saying that they had found the boy bleeding from the head and unresponsive.

The Star Tribune reported the girl appeared in court in handcuffs and was charged with first-degree intentional homicide. Her bond was set at $50 000 (around R700 000).

Her alleged victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, and flown from there to St. Paul.

Following the court hearing, Kowalczyk says the department will be holding a news conference. The child died at a St. Paul hospital November 1.

It has not been revealed whether or not she has a relationship with the victim, with officials also refusing to say which daycare center the tragedy happened at.

She panicked when the boy started crying and stamped on his head, the court heard. A local doctor who examined the baby determined that the injuries were not accidental, he added.

While she appeared with her biological parents in court, it's alleged the girl was with her foster parents - who run the daycare - at the time of the incident.
