Niantic Celebrates Ingress Prime Launch by Adding Free Items to Pokémon Go

No start date has been announced for the Pokemon Go tie-in to Ingress Prime, but Ingress Prime is now available for download on the Apple App and Google Play stores.

Augmented reality gaming is still a new concept.

If you're ready to jump back into the world of Ingress - that is, the real world - you can now get the game for free on Android and iOS.

If this all sounds very Pokémon Go, that's because it's built off the same technology as Niantic's smash hit pocket monster collectathon.

Earlier today, Niantic sent out a press release announcing the release of Ingress Prime, a sequel to their popular Ingress mobile game.

Ingress Prime features two factions, Enlightened and Resistance, which are green and blue themed, so Cubone and Ponyta make a lot of sense if they want to do a cross promotional event.

That's what Ingress Prime aims to change.

If you already play it, you'll now be able to prestige, which is a nice new goal to work towards.

Once upon a time, before Pokémon Go took over the world, there was a mobile game known as Ingress which revolved around using the Global Positioning System within players' phones to discover in-game elements within real-life locations. The Dunraven Project live action series will replace the Ingress Report and a new Netflix anime based on Ingress Prime will launch in the future.

Returning Ingress players will feel right at home, but for many of you, this will be your first foray into an Ingress game.
