Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg taken to hospital after fall

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized Thursday after fracturing three ribs on her left side in a fall at her office a day earlier, the court said in a news release.

RBG's office says she fell Wednesday night while in her SCOTUS office, and even went home thinking she was fine - but, after experiencing some pain overnight, the Justice made a decision to go to George Washington University Hospital Thursday morning.

The court says the fall occurred Wednesday evening. In November 2014, she had a stent placed in her right coronary artery after experiencing discomfort while exorcising at the Supreme Court gym.

Ginsburg's hospitalization comes on the morning of the formal investiture of the court's newest justice, Brett M. Kavanaugh.

In the 2018 midterm elections, Republicans won seats in the U.S. Senate, making future Supreme Court confirmation battles easier.

Ginsburg, who was appointed by president Bill Clinton in 1993, is one of four liberal justices on the nine-member court. However, she reportedly hired clerks for the term that extends into 2020, indicating she has no plans to retire.

Asked a year ago if she was contemplating retirement, she said, "As long as I can do the job full steam, I will do it".
