White House suspends CNN’s Acosta after Trump confrontation

CNN reporter Jim Acosta was denied entry to the White House grounds on Monday night after an exchange with the president on Monday.

The exchange marked a new low for Trump's relationship with journalists, which has largely been hostile.

The press conference, which initially focused on simple political topics, quickly descended into chaos after Trump was asked about his politics and the controversial issue of Russian Federation meddling in the US's 2016 presidential election (the same election that put Trump in the White Hosue).

CNN reporter Jim Acosta was dressed down by Trump after challenging him on his characterisation of the migrant caravan heading to the U.S. as an "invasion".

"Those are some of the people who decided for their own reason not to embrace - whether it's me or what we stand for", Trump told reporters. "You shouldn´t be working for CNN", he said. He then said "That's enough", as his aides tried to pull the mic away, and after Acosta asked him about the Russian Federation investigation, he completely snapped.

After being questioned about the migrant caravan and Russian Federation investigation during a post-midterms press conference, the president lashes out at the "rude, terrible" CNN chief White House correspondent.

"You are a rude, awful person", the president said.

"CNN should be ashamed of themselves, having you work for them", he said. They way you treat Sarah Huckabee is frightful and the way you treat other people are disgusting. "The way you treat other people is frightful!" "You shouldn't treat people like that".

Many outlets expressed concern at the fact that a White House staffer attempted to take the microphone away from Acosta, who wouldn't stop talking even though he received answers to two different questions.

Frustrated by Acosta's criticism of a campaign ad, Trump finally said: "You should let me run the country and you should run CNN. Revoking access to the White House complex is a reaction out of line to the purported offence and is unacceptable".

He then lampooned Acosta for the way in which he has questions White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in press briefings.

CNN released a statement after the conference saying the President's attacks on the press have "gone too far". "Mia Love gave me no love", he said.

"Just sit down please", he said to Acosta, who tried to ask another question.

Trump explained he wants immigrants to come to America, because its expanding economy needs the workers, but they need to come legally.

The president had been talking to other reporters and really railing against them.

'That's enough, Put down the mike, ' Trump told him.

When asked why Representative Jeff Flake of Arizona, who was not a head of any committe, retired, Trump replied: "I retired him". To NBC's Peter Alexander, who defended Jim Acosta: 'Well, I'm not a big fan of yours either'.
