Strategy Guide Company Prima Games Is Shutting Down

The long-running company, which has run for 28 years and even acquired competitor Brady Games along the way, will be closing all of its offices in Spring 2019.

Video game strategy guide maker Prima Games is officially shutting down, British publisher DK (formerly Dorling Kindersley ) told Variety on Friday.

The publisher's print guides all feature in-depth content, detailed screen captures, quick-reference tips, and professional strategies. The news of its closure was confirmed by PublishersLunch yesterday. According to PublishersLunch, "there are approximately 40 people from Prima on LinkedIn". Somehow, someway, Prima Games has stayed in business despite the growth of free, readily available online guides. However, the Roseville office will close much earlier than its counterparts in NY and Indianapolis; at some point in mid-November of this year. Roseville will be closing very soon, in mid-November, Indianapolis will have a small selection of staff stay on until March 2019, and the NY office's fate is now unknown.

I'll also never forget the days of my youth where I would grab a guide to help navigate my way through some of the more obtuse N64 games.

In 1990, Prima Games owner Ben Dominitz joined forces with writer Rusel DeMaria to create a video game strategy guide imprint initially titled "The Secrets of the Games".

Prima Games will close down fully by Spring 2019.
