The Bulls said in a statement Hoiberg would be replaced by associate head coach Jim Boylen in an effort to reverse the slide.

The Chicago Bulls chose to spice up everyone's normally calm and collective Monday morning, letting go of head coach Fred Hoiberg, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

To discuss the move on Sports Feed, we had both Ricky O'Donnell and Jason Patt on the show to talk about the firing along with the team moving forward.

The Iowa State Cyclone hoops legend, known as The Mayor, coached at ISU for five seasons after ending his National Basketball Association career due to a heart problem. The Bulls' 5-19 record to start the season isn't much of a surprise given all the injuries, but it could be the belief that Boylen's more seasoned coaching experience would be better for the development of the team's young players as they get healthy. "And I think eventually, everybody was like, 'Yo, they're either going to build the team around Jimmy, or they're going to go the route with Fred, the up-and-down, shoot a lot of threes (style)". The Bulls would end up making the playoffs in his second season after they finished with a 41-41 record, but they quickly made a decision to blow the team up after. It was the front office that gave Cristiano Felicio a four-year, $32 million contract after he'd averaged just 4.8 points and 4.7 rebounds a night during the 2016-17 season.

The Bulls are now on a six-game losing streak and have only won one of their last 10 games.

Hoiberg had been the Bulls' head coach since June 2015.
