Heisman Trophy Finalists Announced

Quarterback Will Grier put together one of the finest individual seasons in West Virginia football history, but ultimately it was not enough to earn a trip to New York City as one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy.

While Murray will hope to be Oklahoma's seventh Heisman victor, and fourth Sooners quarterback (Jason White, Sam Bradford and Mayfield) since 2003, Tagovailoa is attempting to become Alabama's first-ever Heisman-winning quarterback.

If the most-recent performances we've seen from Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Oklahoma's Kyler Murray are any indication, the latter has a fighting chance to come away with this year's Heisman Trophy.

Tagovailoa has been the favorite for most of the season, but Murray and Haskins finished strong.

The finalists are determined by the margin of votes received, starting with the third- and fourth-place finishers.

The Heisman Trophy victor will be announced Saturday night, December 8 in New York City. After injuring his ankle early in the game Tagovailoa completed just 10 of 25 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. Both quarterbacks are also on pace to shatter the FBS season passing efficiency record set by Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman victor Baker Mayfield previous year. The junior, who has already signed a $4.7 million deal to play baseball with the Oakland Athletics next year, has passed for 4,053 yards and 40 touchdowns with seven interceptions.

No school has ever produced back-to-back Heisman Trophy winners who were quarterbacks.

Haskins is the Big Ten's player of the year, leading the nation with 47 touchdown passes and 4,580 yards passing.

Rushing: 48 carries, 190 yards, 3.96 yards per carry, 5 touchdowns.
