Pence spoke at a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, where Bush will lie in state through Wednesday. A similar outpouring is anticipated in Washington this week during the state funeral for Bush, who died late Friday at his home in Houston.

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump on Tuesday will offer their condolences to the "wonderful" Bush family during a private visit to the Blair House on Tuesday, the president announced by tweet.

Bush's casket is set to arrive in Washington on Monday afternoon aboard the USA military airplane that's more commonly recognized as Air Force One.

She recalled Bush as a man of "honor, dignity and graciousness" and a president who worked across the aisle and sought good relations with other nations.

Former President George W. Bush will deliver a eulogy for his late father at the funeral, as will former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, former US Sen.

"As much as our family is going to miss this dog, we're comforted to know he'll bring the same joy to his new home, Walter Reed, that he brought to 41", Bush's son, former president George W. Bush, wrote on Instagram.

The Post reported that one person close to the funeral planning said the Bush family's decision to be amicable toward the current president was "at least partly pragmatic" because Trump has the final say over important aspects of the funeral, including the use of Air Force One to carry Bush's body between Texas to Washington. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Barbara Bush, who died in April of this year.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner urged residents to wear colorful socks at an evening event in front of City Hall in a nod to one of the late former president's favorite fashion accessories. The number is a reference to Bush's place in the roster of America's presidents.
