What hasn't changed are the production dates for the beef, July 26 through September 7, so there's no concern about beef now on sale.

More than 12 million pounds of beef is now under recall as Arizona meat packing plant JBS Tolleson, Inc. announced it was expanding a recall implemented in October.

Millions more pounds of beef are being recalled because of food-poisoning concerns.

All product supplied from JBS packaging facility in Tolleson, AZ.

The complete list of recalled products by the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service is 33 pages long, but only one product may have been sold in Southern Illinois.

You can find a link to the recalled products on the sidebar. An additional 16 case-patients have provided receipts or shopper card numbers for the product traceback investigations.

The products being recalled were packaged between July 26 and September 7. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The USDA's, however, noted that "individuals concerned about an illness should contact their health care provider". "These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase", the recall notice states. Most people can recover without treatment.

Salmonella causes about 1.2 million illnesses, 23,000 hospitalizations and 450 deaths in the United States each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.

Salmonella symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. The only way to confirm that ground beef or other cuts of beef are cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria is to use a food thermometer that measures the internal temperature.

Anyone with questions about this recall can call JBS at 800-727-2333.
