Four former presidents and President Donald Trump will be attending his funeral at the National Cathedral.

The former President, who suffered from a form of Parkinson's disease late in life, had used a wheelchair since 2012. Flags on public buildings are flying at half-staff for 30 days. The United States Postal Service will suspend regular mail deliveries, retail services and administrative office activity. Bush will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda until Wednesday morning. The Supreme Court is delaying arguments by a day for the national day of mourning.

Following the funeral, Bush will return to Joint Base Andrews at 1:15 p.m. and depart back to Houston.

Houston will host a public tribute to Bush on Monday night.

The picture was posted on Twitter by Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath, along with the caption: "Mission complete". The crew has been tasked by Trump with carrying out "Special Air Mission 41".

On Monday, George H.W. Bush's faithful service dog Sully made a final journey back to the U.S. capital with the late president.

Once Bush lies in state, his casket will be transported by motorcade on Wednesday morning to the National Cathedral, where a state funeral will be held.

Remembrances to George and Barbara Bush sprang up in the Houston neighbourhood where they made their home, at a memorial to President Bush at a city park and at the airport named in his honour.

The dog has also accompanied the family during the ceremonies marking Bush's passing.

"Obviously we disagreed pretty strongly on domestic policy and I wasn't thrilled with the kind of campaign he ran, but I think his greatest contribution was in negotiating the end of the Cold War with (Soviet leader) Mikhail Gorbachev", Dukakis told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

Soon after, he reached the height of his political popularity following the liberation of Kuwait, with public approval ratings that are the envy of today's politicians, the USA economy began to sour and voters began to believe that Bush, never a great communicator - something even he acknowledged - was out of touch with ordinary people. We will cherish their time with us forever.

A similar outpouring is anticipated in Washington this week during the state funeral for Bush, who died late Friday at his home in Houston.

It features a photograph of Sully laying down in front of Bush and Bill Clinton, the man who defeated him in the 1992 presidential race.

In Texas, students, staff and visitors have been flocking to Bush's presidential library on the campus of Texas A&M University. The casket will then be rolled along a path through woods, over a bridge and over a creek for burial during a private graveside service with Bush's family. George H.W. Bush.
