Liverpool set Premier League defensive record in Burnley win

Liverpool lose Gomez for six weeks

Liverpool lose Gomez for six weeks

"It wasn't a foul but they can not do that".

Liverpool manager Klopp was furious on Wednesday night after Gomez limped out of their 3-1 Premier League victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Jack Cork struck shortly after half time for Burnley to give the hosts an unexpected lead, but Jurgen Klopp's men responded with strikes from James Milner and Roberto Firmino, before Xherdan Shaqiri put the icing on the cake in a resolute 3-1 win.

Speaking at his post-match media conference about the severity of Gomez's injury, Klopp said: "It was his ankle". Because you get the player as well. You get the ball, nice, but it's like bowling.

Liverpool confirmed on Thursday that Gomez is set to be out for up to six weeks, meaning he will miss Liverpool's pivotal Champions League fixture with Napoli next week, as well as the home clash with Manchester United.

In response to Klopp's comments about the Clarets' rough approach, Dyche said: "Of course football managers can question whatever they like but I don't think they can reinvent the rules".

"I think the only one that was questionable was from Bardo [Phil Bardsley]".

Klopp crticised the match referee Stuart Atwell, saying: "'I said to the referee after the first sliding tackle (made) over six or seven yards, when he got the ball and everyone liked it: "'Please, tell them they can not do that'".

"I think Ben Mee's was a fantastic tackle and I imagine that a player, who seems to me an honest player, like Gomes, I think he realised that".

"And I thought we were effective in the way we mixed it - not enough - you have to win a game - but we've got to get back to being us, and get back to the consistency of being us".
